Back in Skinny Jeans

So there’s exactly one month before it’s time to go back to school and say goodbye to flirty skirts, summer dresses and shorts. It’s finally time to let those skinny jeans see the light again! Unfortunately after all the summer partying and birthday celebrations my fave pair of jeans feel a little snug. It’s time to make some changes and for the next 30 days I will be dedicated to a better life style.

5 Things I promise to do

1. Drink only water. Water has zero calories and carbohydrates. It also flushes out excess water weight and jump starts your metabolism

2. Ban white bread/pasta/rice. We’ve tried the Atkins fad diet and frankly we wouldn’t be able to do a carb free diet. Instead we’ve decided to only cut out only white grain products. Whole grain foods are higher in fibre which give a feeling of fullness so you eat less.

3. Thirty minutes of cardio a day. Each day we are going to perform some kind of aerobic activity wether it be jogging, dancing or skipping. By doing cardio daily we are increasing our heart rate to burn calories during and after the activity… I’m dreading this part already =(

4. Sleep 6-8 hours. This is going to be a difficult one because I am a night owl. Lack of sleep increases hormones that stimulates appetite and also have a lower metabolism.

5. No alcohol. Pure alcohol contains about 7 calories per gram, which makes it nearly twice as fattening as carbohydrates or protein (both contain about 4 calories per gram) and only just under the caloric value for fat (9 calories per gram). This means that if you want to lose weight and reduce excess body fat, alcohol is not a good choice and when your throwing back multiple shots at the club it’s hard to keep track of how many calories you’ve just consumed.

It’s time to get back into those skinny jeans and get rid of the muffin top… stay tune for my weekly updates.

Friends with the Enemy

breaking-up
So your best girlfriend and best guy friend just broke up after a long epic love story and you are forced to pick sides. It’s always a tricky terrain to navigate when your friend breaks up with her boyfriend in the same circle of friends. Since you were all close at one point, it doesn’t seem fair to drop him but you don’t want this to be a test of your loyalty.

The longer the relationship the more mutual friends the couple may share. Do you stay friends with his friends? How do you divide everyone up? Remember you don’t have control of other people. Just set your boundaries. Yeah, his boys were cool and fun to be around but they are HIS friends and if they want to be friends with you, they will make it happen.

Where do you stand on remaining friends with your friend’s ex? Is there an unwritten rule that you shouldn’t remain friends with, or at least friendly with, her ex?

Don’t let your friends text & drive!

text-driving Some believe that texting while driving is more dangerous then driving drunk. I admit I’ve sent a few text messaging while driving but some of you may wonder what’s the harm of a couple of quick key stroke to let your buddy know you’re “running late.” The problem is that texting forces people to take their eyes off the road. The 20 seconds used to send a message can be the difference between life and death. The number of cellphone related accidents have increased over the last year.

Do you text message while driving? Do you think it should be banned?
